Gentle Suggestions // March

Hello friends, it's been a long time away from this space but after seeing so much negativity and sadness in the world I figured if there was something I could do - it would be to continue this series to bring some love and light.

March was a month of discovery in terms of self-love and introspection so if my suggestions lean towards these, it would be no surprise. For all of you who still feel like you're swimming in black water, I hope these suggestions can help you in some way or another.

ARTIST SUGGESTION
Elizaveta Porodina
Explore more of her work here.

BOOK SUGGESTION
The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat - Oliver Sacks
Everything Under - Daisy Johnson

For anyone interested in learning about the wonders of the excesses and deficits of the brain, Oliver Sacks (genius Neurologist, if I may say so) recounts the experiences he had when faced with the most interesting of patients in a very readable and sometimes hilarious manner. Through the moments I felt out of touch with other people or societal demands, Oliver Sacks drew me back to the bigger picture and I am always grateful.

If you're not much into non-fiction and would rather discover the mysteries (and delights) of the mind, Everything Under by Daisy Johnson is an excellent read. Daisy has a way with words in this novel with everything painted vibrantly when life was with the protagonist's mother and quiet, normal almost with her own. Thoroughly fascinating and thought-provoking.

MUSIC SUGGESTION
Mornin Dew - Sunni Colón
It Ain't Over 'Til It's Over - Lenny Kravitz

No words, just listen

HABIT SUGGESTION
Don't dwell, lift yourself up and in turn others.

Don't spend your moments paralysed by melancholy and the what if's - it's painful and most often, it does nothing to dwell on the past. It teaches you lessons to be introspective but when it reaches unhealthy levels of negativity, you know it's time to STOP.

1. Listen to your favourite upbeat music
2. Keep an emotion journal - map or write down what you're thinking, sometimes seeing it become tangible helps you realise that it might be menial
3. Go out or if you've been going out too much, stay in

I've been gone for far too long and saying that I haven't had the time to sit down to write would be a lie. Truth is, I haven't had the motivation to talk about anything or to create anything. If anyone has any links to styling or photography gigs, I would really love to sign up! For now, I've compiled a bunch of suggestions I really found useful since the last time I did one of these.

PHOTOGRAPHER SUGGESTION
Karen Dias

"The small state of Haryana in northern India has the worst sex ratio in India at 879 females per 1000 males. It is also one of the lowest in the world. Haryana is also known for caste and sexual violence against women and female infanticide, rape, trafficking and domestic violence are common. But, a small and scattered community of girls are breaking stereotypes and winning international laurels in sports ranging from hockey to boxing, wrestling to football and rifle shooting. In a place where women are rarely allowed outside the house unaccompanied and wearing ‘western clothes’ and playing physical sports are a complete no-no, Haryana’s young girls are qualifying and winning in the Olympics, Commonwealth Games, Asian Games, National Games among various other national and international championships. However, the path to pursuing a sport of their choice comes with great struggle. Most of the girls belong to poor families and cannot afford the equipment, diet and upkeep required to play professionally. Most girls can’t even dream of having access to psychologists or medical facilities that their western counterparts have access to. Even though, there is a great push from the Haryana government to develop sports in the state, sporting facilities have a long way to go and bureaucracy makes it harder for some players to get access to meal schemes, prize money, etc. Some girls even mention how the prize money for girls is less than the boys for the same sports. A lot of the players don’t even have access to toilets or changing rooms." - Karen Dias Photography

In Karen Dias' exploration of society and culture in India, she manages to effectively capture the struggles, joy and everyday moments that only good photographers can. I love Karen's ability to make contrasting and impactful moments of blurry focus a staple in her style. When reviewing her artistic exploration, every story collection has a message she is anxious to reveal and although she is passionate about her subjects she does not force a perspective on you.

BRAND SUGGESTION
Gorman Clothing

Gorman clothing is a beautiful Australian-based ethical and sustainable clothing company. Their ability to express their interpretations of modern-day life and artists in print is amazing. The only thing I'd change about them is the look of their website.

Shop here, follow them here.

SONG SUGGESTION
Something Stupid - Andy Williams

Ah, Andy Williams...this is a love letter from me to you, old man. The way you sing makes me feel tingly all over and your voice never fails to make others look over in jealousy. Here's to more late nights together, dancing in my bedroom.
Love, your avid listener.

HABIT SUGGESTION
Breathing

When it comes to stress, we're all experienced. I've found that the easiest way for me to deal with pressure and an overwhelming sensation to run and hide is to breathe. When you're about to break, take deep breaths to calm your spirit.
1) Start by stopping what you're doing at the moment and close your eyes.
2) Take slow and deep breaths until you start feeling your heart beating steadily.
3) Let go of your thoughts for that few minutes and then resume whatever you're doing again.
I hope you found my long overdue Gentle Suggestions helpful. Please let me know if you have anything to contribute as well!

Back from a break away from this space and I must say it's done me some good. Sometimes it feels like I'm talking to myself on this space and I'm not sure if what I'm trying to achieve actually gets achieved but I'm glad to be back. I've gotten some new and exciting ideas for projects that would be more meaningful for this space. In the meantime, give me a shout if you've got any ideas!

BRAND SUGGESTION
Paloma Wool

Paloma Wool has been on my radar these few months. The brand hails from Barcelona, Spain and explores photography, fashion and art. The easy, effortless style and that free spirit vibe of the brand really appeals to me especially the recurring art on clothing and art of clothing theme they have going. Paloma Wool does summer clothing so well so what can I say? I'm a summer child through and through after all.

All photos above belong to Paloma Wool

YOUTUBER SUGGESTION
That's Chic (Rachel Nguyen)

Rachel Nguyen, what can I say. I adore her! Her videos are cheeky, playful and real. It's not too edited and it's funny at times even (watch How to Pack like a Pro). From her style to what she shares with the Internet, everything seems so original (I know, nothing is original) and authentic which is hard to find online with everyone producing the same content (myself included), dressing similarly and indulging in the same habits.

If you'd like to check out more of Rachel Nguyen,

BOOK SUGGESTION
Wild Swans by Jung Chang

I haven't recommended a book in ages and I have my grandfather to thank for this one! I've always been interested in learning more about China's history and my heritage (so to speak). Knowing this, my granddad got me this book and I love it. It's a biography and a non-fiction book, genres I never knew I'd be interested in but this is told in such a real and as-it-is way that I couldn't stop flipping the pages.

Wild Swans follows the story of 3 generations of women in China, all in different ages of the nation's life and their struggles in each age. From the author's grandmother, to her mother and to herself, each life story is told wonderfully. If you're ever interested or are interested in understanding China and its people, take a read and perhaps you'd be able to comprehend more.

Thanks for reading and as usual, let me know if your thoughts and opinions on Instagram! I'd love to hear about your stories from last month. XX

Pretty late on the bandwagon this month due to work and social life buttttt (not butt, no haha) here I am. Back again. I feel like I've lost touch with writing and reading for the past few months. I'm definitely still reading of course but it's just become so much slower. I've become so busy that I just don't know what to do when I have any free time on my hands...do I read? Reflect? Listen to music? Watch The Office? It all seems a little pointless after awhile and I wish I could do something more worthwhile. I'm not sure if anyone feels the same way but let me know if you do...I'd love to find out that I'm not the only struggling early 20's gal here...

Now, down to business. (Sorry about the bad alignment in advance...the downside of this template is that it never sits right when a picture is not big enough. If anyone has any tips, please share!)

BRAND SUGGESTION
Jacqueline Rabun

You guys know I love any brand that produces pieces that speak for themselves. I've never been into the flashy or overly-elaborate styles. Jacqueline Rabun fits right into my perimeters of a great investment staple and as usual, I just had to like a brand out of my budget range but your invite to join me in making all sorts of lovey-eyes at these pieces is very much extended.

All pictures by Rosalia Park for Jacqueline Rabun

MUSIC SUGGESTION
Childish Gambino

This isn't the first time I've said this but I'm not the best person when it comes to describing music and the colours a song has. I don't even pay attention to genres. Childish Gambino is no newcomer for those whose jam is R&B/Soul but there's something about the intricacy his songs have and the layers that he deftly plays with to tell us a story with every song. Just listen to "Me and Your Mama" and you'd know what I mean. That being said, his more lighthearted and uplifting songs like "Sober" and "Redbone" easily have the same musical depth. I could listen to them a hundred times and not be bored (okay, I exaggerate again but you know what I mean).

MAGAZINE SUGGESTION
Mynah Magazine

It's a little hypocritical to be suggesting a magazine I've never read or touched and I've never done this before but I feel like I have to. For the uninitiated, Mynah Magazine is a Singaporean magazine that covers local issues that should and need to be read and talked about. It's first issue was only published in 2016 but the content stays relevant with increasing interest in what it has to offer for Singaporeans. As I haven't read the magazine, I can't tell you the benefits or negatives about it but I just felt compelled to share it somehow. With more and more Singaporeans demanding alternative news and authentic stories, we've got to support magazines like this so that Singapore becomes a more diverse area with our own people contributing to the growth of our soul. We may have a great first-world economy and nation but we're very behind when it comes to nurturing a sense of real belonging here.

That's it for last month! Please let me know if you have a different opinion or what favourites you had last month either on here or on Instagram. I love it when you guys share new experiences/products/tips or whatever with me. XX

Introductions are always difficult for me. What do I say that won't sound self-indulgent? Should I say less to seem more "artsy"? Every month is hard with new challenges that I'm constantly taking on, saying it's difficult every month just kind of takes the aim of this segment away into a diary of self-indulgence. So I'm not really sure what to say here anymore except that if you're still reading my blog...thank you. I hope we all learn from each other more because that was why I started this segment in the very first place.

ARTIST SUGGESTION
Kim Whye Kee
Singapore Ceramist

Family Dinner by Kim Whye Kee (Yellow Ribbon)

I must confess, I've only discovered about Kim Whye Kee in March. The first weekend of March to be exact, at the second Human Library event. Kim Whye Kee is an ex-convict turned artist who found forgiveness and repentance through pottery. After his father passed away and he had to attend his funeral with his hands handcuffed and in prison garb, Whye Kee realised that his past life no longer held any meaning for him anymore and took up pottery in prison. After deciding to come out of prison a changed man, Whye Kee decided to leave his gang and became the artist he is today.

His experiences in leading a gang lends itself to various projects he has done for the museum like Family Dinner in SAM (Singapore Art Museum) pictured above and his project on the romanticism of secret societies.

Whye Kee is just one of Singapore's ex-convicts looking to change society and societal mindsets and I applaud him for it.

SONG SUGGESTIONS
I have been listening to loads of music these days and I would love to recommend at least 10 but that might be a little crazy and I don't think all of you would appreciate the music spam so I guess I'll just settle for a few this time. Some songs I've been listening to are new finds, some are re-visits and some are just music secrets that are no longer secrets.

Tom Misch - Sunshine

Ah, Tom Misch...you really know how to make me groove...I've been really enjoying his music lately in the mornings before I head to work. Crazy Dream is another favourite but I must admit that Sunshine's got my heart. This song has been keeping me going whenever I'm feeling blue and is such a great start to my morning. Also, such a great song to dance to in the shower...

Maggie Rogers - Alaska

Mags here is phenomenal. I'm not kidding. She's created this genre all by herself of mixing dance beats and folk music. The result is this music that just gets into your soul when you listen to it. It never gets old for me and I've been listening to this song for the past month on repeat, everyday. It sounds crazy but trust me and listen to it for yourself. You'll hopefully get what I'm trying to poorly express.

John Mayer - Slow Dancing in a Burning Room

John Mayer is one of my artist re-visits and this song in particular has been my favourite especially this live set by him. John Mayer's warm voice combined with his melancholic lyrics is genius. After his recent releases (which I wasn't a great fan of), I'd forgotten how much I liked his older songs and I guess my recent binge repeats are testament enough to it.

HABIT SUGGESTION
Accept yourself

This seems like a no-brainer and has been advocated by so many in the media especially social media but I've always found it ironic and cringe-worthy when said by someone who has a massive following or when reading about it through opinion pieces about the writer's journey to find self-acceptance and self-love. Everyone is always talking about self-love, self-acceptance and self-respect but the advocates are usually those being influenced by societal demands and are never truly themselves because they're always trying to be skinny or always trying to have the "right diet" or "look". With the "trend" of loving yourself, is it even really about loving yourself anymore?

What is even original anymore and what does being yourself mean in today's context? I always say "you do you" to my friends but what does that even mean anymore when we are constantly told by the media what originality should look like. So to whoever is reading this, I have no advice to be honest. Just to always listen to yourself and do what feels comfortable. You don't have to do yoga, be a weekend warrior or have money in the bank to be "original". Be content and the rest will follow.

I've been noticing as I grow older that time passes by quicker than I'm ready for. This squirmy, weird feeling inside me of not having done enough for the day or month is increasingly apparent as I realise (like today) that another month has gone by and I'm afraid. I'm afraid of not having lived enough, learnt enough or been a better person than I could have. Maybe it's all part of being at an age and life that I'm still figuring out what I want in the present and future or maybe it's something else. I'm still figuring it out but I'll let you know when I have it down.

But enough talk, let's dive into January's Gentle Suggestions.

BRAND SUGGESTION
Filippa K
(Sweden)

You guys know how much I love a good quality, sustainable and less is more brand. Filippa K checks each box off and is one of my favourite brands to drool over. However, it's not exactly cheap and each time I visit the website, I have trouble refraining myself from putting my bank through some extremely tough times. Having no constant income as a fresh grad and a thirst for something out of my budget means I stare at each piece longingly while imagining myself exploring a European city wearing that said piece.

SONG SUGGESTION
1) Electric Guest - Dear to Me
2) Chelou - Halfway to Nowhere

This month, I have two songs instead of just one for you guys. I couldn't decide and I love discovering new songs so hope you don't mind more than just one!

Electric Guest - Dear to Me

I would admit that the video is at times a little cliche but gosh, is this a feel-good song. When I listen to this, I get reminded of how good life is and how unnecessary negativity is. It just makes me want to put in my earphones and dance through the forest (imaginary in my case unless you count buildings as trees).

Chelou - Halfway to Nowhere

This second song suggestion is a little more quirky than usual. The video is strange yet so compelling that I believe I've watched it well over ten times. If I would hazard a guess, I would guess that the plot plays on The Garden of Eden and a woman's journey to find herself after becoming lured by the allure of sin in today's world. Although it ends with her texting and shedding her demonic suit so perhaps demons exist in different skins today, not just in the traditional red and horns form.

WORD SUGGESTION
Vapid
Meaning:   Showing no intelligence or imagination
We've all been there, well I've been there way more times than I would have liked. Making a fool of ourselves on the Internet is easy and always embarrassing when you realise what a colossal dick how thick-headed you've been afterwards.

It's easy to fall into vapidity and silliness when you enter the Internet. There are so many opinions to choose from, so many different types of people to follow and listen to that sometimes, the only way to find answers and opinions you really need are based off of your own maturity and reasoning. If you're young, impressionable and vulnerable to multiple opinions, the Internet can really be the worst place to gather information. Especially in the last year and this coming year where there will be more division of opinions, it's important to be able to understand what you want out of the Internet.

Pop culture and the draw to follow the "popular", "attractive" and "cool" people online can be very alluring. Humans are only humans. We assume that attractive people have the best opinions even if they don't because sometimes we don't know enough information to discern what we want to absorb. There is no right and wrong online. There isn't a right way to do things or the right people to follow but sometimes, it's just vapidity and we need to know how to cut through it all so as to make better human beings.

P.S. The word vapid is so nice to pronounce and say in such a sassy way.

Thanks again for reading and I hope I've enhanced your life in any way through this post. See you on the flip side, xx.

Gentle Suggestions // December

It's the first post of 2017 and we're already halfway through January. I can't believe how quickly 2016 has come and gone! We've endured heartbreaks, deaths, global warming, terrorism, everyday racism and we've lived to see another year. I'm incredibly proud of you, reading this now, to have come out of one heck of a year and to be ready for another crazy year of growth.

This 2017, it's high time we move towards being kinder and more authentic beings towards each other and the environment. Without further ado, let's talk about gentle suggestions shall we?

ARTIST SUGGESTION
Kwak Myeong Ju
(South Korean Artist)

Kwak Myeong Ju (곽명주) is an artist whom I've been constantly impressed by during the past year that I've been following her on Instagram. Her unique and sometimes innocent outlook on life is reflected through her work depicting everyday life (mostly in Seoul, where she lives) capturing what we sometimes take for granted in our mundane everyday. From talking on the phone to sitting on a bench enjoying the company of a stranger, Myeong Ju reminds me everyday to appreciate every moment.

Work and photos by Kwak Myeong Ju

You can follow her work via her Facebook page and Instagram as well as watch her work here:

MUSIC SUGGESTION
Headcase by Day Wave

Ahhh, this song has been on constant repeat for the past month. Whenever it's time to head out, this song is my go-to music when I'm commuting on the train or the bus. The upbeat rhythm coupled with Day Waves ethereal, mystical voice is so soothing yet really puts me in such a great mood. This song has helped me get through my toughest days and I hope it helps you get through yours too.

HABIT SUGGESTION
Look Inwards

Decembers taught me many lessons. One of which is to look inwards. I've struggled a lot in 2016 dealing with heartbreak, confidence and trust issues. Prolonged periods of holding off self-reflection and unwanted dealings with my own thoughts has taught me this, look inwards. The only way to truly move on, straighten your back and get out the door is to deal with what you are unconsciously or consciously pushing aside. Don't fight it, accept it. I've found that mulling over my thoughts and feelings when I'm showering then writing them down with what I'd like to improve helps a lot. Find what works for you in dealing with what you feel is not working out but don't hold back any longer, life is too unpredictable to stay stagnant.

Once again, live your life graciously and thank you for staying with me. DM me, email me or comment down below if you're having a terrible day, xx.

Gentle Suggestions // November

Seems like I'm late to the wagon this month! I've been in this weird slump lately where I feel like I've just been pushing social media and writing away to focus on my life off any kind of screen. I know I've said that I would post more last month but things just got really weird and I'm so sorry to have broken my promise to anyone who reads this space! Here comes gentle suggestions :)

ARTIST SUGGESTION:
Iskandar Jalil
(Singaporean ceramist)

Iskandar Jalil is a Singaporean ceramist and I am embarrassed to admit that I have only recently discovered him despite his long career. To be honest, I haven't taken an interest in Singaporean artists (like many Singaporeans) until only this year which is extremely regrettable as right after discovering him, I found out that the show I attended at The National Gallery might possibly be one of his last ever due to cancer.

While visiting his show at the museum, I was really impressed by his thought process and the way in which simple ceramics could convey his love for his interns or even what his feelings were at a certain point in time. The colours and his wish to draw back into everyday items Singaporeans use really touched me and his dedication to his craft during his whole adult life is extremely admirable.

If you're interested to visit his show, you may visit The National Gallery here in Singapore if you live here or visiting.

P.S. Singaporean artists (or even musicians even) struggle really hard in this country especially if the government is not aware of them and does not support them. I would love love love to feature more Singaporean artists and musicians to raise more appreciation for them in this country, what do you guys think?

YOUTUBER SUGGESTION:
WahlieTV, Vagabond Youth, IAMKARENO, Claire Marshall

It's the start of December and anyone who is interested in YouTube will know it only means one thing: VLOGMAS
I start my day or end them watching vlogs and here are some suggestions of youtubers I just absolutely love. (okay some don't vlog but I'm just gonna throw them in here anyway)

Wahlie TV
Okay, I know I know, Weylie and Wah are so popular that most of you would already be watching their vlogs without my recommendation but there's something about the way they communicate to their viewers that makes me feel like I'm there with them. Just good vibes all around. If you haven't gotten into watching them, I highly highly recommend it. Hopefully once you start, you'll realise why so many people love them too.

Vagabond Youth
I only discovered Amy from Vagabond Youth a few months ago and what I love about her is the old-school YouTube vibe her videos have. They're raw, intimate and so real that I just relate to her on so many levels. I feel like so many YouTube channels out there now aren't authentic enough and they just feel like they're just not relatable no matter how much they tell their viewers that they're appreciative of them. In this video, Amy talks about so many things that we millennials struggle with that I really highly recommend you watch.

IAMKARENO
Karen might be another popular YouTuber online but the effort she puts into her videos and the aesthetic she has really impresses me especially this video! I will admit that she doesn't always have as much authentic, sit-down videos that allows me to relate to her but videos like these are enough for me especially just for the aesthetic vibes.

Claire Marshall
Okay, I'll be honest, I haven't always liked Claire Marshall but she has really stepped up her game past makeup videos lately. This video was a winner for me where she really expressed herself and her innermost thoughts to her viewers that I could appreciate a lot. If you're into makeup and fitness, Claire will suit you really well. Oh and she's doing vlogmas too, yay!

HABIT SUGGESTION:
Don't Sweat the Small Stuff

It seems almost cliche now after this saying got popular but throughout this whole year, I feel as if this phrase has stuck with me and helped me grow. Living in a city with a busy lifestyle, it's so easy for all of us to get caught up in our lives and demand that things go our way when they don't. But what most people don't understand is why they even want something in the first place. Is it because it looks good to be in certain schools? Is it because we think we are asserting our rights by demanding that things fall into place because of what we've planned earlier? Let's just all breathe and realise that sometimes things don't go our way and that's perfectly okay. Follow the flow of life, take things as they are now and stop sweating the little things just because they aren't what we planned for the day or our future.

I hope everyone enjoyed November's Gentle Suggestions and if you have any suggestions on what you'd like me to cover on my blog, feel free to email me or Instagram message me. We're all family here! xx

Gentle Suggestions // October

leave a comment: 0 comments

October has been such a busy month (as usual) for me. I've taught myself to move on, met great friends along the way and found a new direction in life! I honestly couldn't be happier and I hope all of you (my dear readers) have been well this month too. If you haven't, I hope this blog post allows some distraction and well-needed rest. Enjoy.

BRAND SUGGESTION:
 Candles of Light

This month, I'm featuring a local brand (finally!) that I really love. Candles of Light is a Singaporean small business that I discovered when they reached out to me last year asking if they could send some candles for feedback (this post isn't sponsored). The candles were so good and are centred around different times of the day: Dawn, Daylight, Dusk and Midnight. Each candle contains a different pleasant combination of scents perfect for each time of the day. I was skeptical at first about Midnight and Dusk as they were musky types that I tended to stay away from but after trying them out at their respective times, I could really see why they were made as they were!

I love to feature small businesses because of the relationship they form with me and their other customers which is why the brand suggestions so far have been small businesses in case any of you were wondering.

ARTIST SUGGESTION:
Christiane Spangsberg

"CHRISTIANE SPANGSBERG is an artist aspired by originality and imperfection."
I first discovered Christiane Spangsberg through Instagram, as with most of my recommendations, and her minimalistic lines and work really inspired me. There's something quite quietly magical about her work that just drew me in. Christiane currently lives in Copenhagen and was born in 1989, she counts Picasso as an inspiration for her now trademark one-line technique and is currently delving into Fauvism.

Check out more of her work here: http://christianespangsberg.com/ and her instagram

MUSIC SUGGESTION:
Saltwater by Geowulf

A friend recently suggested this song to me and it really helped get me through a lot of sad, lonely bus rides home. Something about the low range of singing maybe or water...I really like water. Maybe that explains it. I hope you enjoy it too!

BOOK SUGGESTION:
The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie by Alan Bradley

My grandfather was the first to get me hooked onto this mystery series and it is without a doubt, one of my favourite mystery series to date. I wasn't that into mystery back in the day to be honest but this book was unpretentious, easy to read and so endearing.

The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie is set in 1950's countryside England where Flavia de Luce, an 11-year-old with a passion for Chemistry, tries to solve a crime involving her father. The novel combines a child's perspective on the world and an adult's cynical intelligence to form this really addictive mystery.

And that concludes October's Gentle Suggestions! See you next month or on Instagram. :) P.S. Sorry for the wonky image for the book suggestion, I wasn't able to find a big enough picture.

Gentle Suggestions // September

leave a comment: 0 comments

September....ah September. This month has been such a chaos of finding and losing myself so I apologise that I have not been updating this blog as regularly as I promised. Sometimes I even questioned if what I have gone through (and still am going through) is real. However, I am back with our monthly Gentle Suggestions that I have gathered along this month that have given me inspiration and comfort. Enjoy!

BRAND SUGGESTION:
Elizabeth Suzann

Photos from Elizabeth Suzann SS16, taken by Zachary Gray

"We believe in mindful, careful consumption"

Elizabeth Suzann is a brand that you cannot help but love and believe in even if you don't purchase their products. The lady boss behind this brand of her own namesake is a firm believer in clothes that can fit women of all sizes and that clothes should be investments that can be worn for years after purchase. Each piece is designed and made in the same building by Elizabeth and her team. They believe in taking their time in the creation of clothing and that "the wait for each garment is a time to reflect, a time to anticipate, a time to appreciate what goes into bringing it to life - so that when it arrives, it’s a thing worth treasuring because it was a thing worth waiting for."

Check them out here!

BOOK SUGGESTION:
The Hen Who Dreamed She Could Fly by Seonmi Hwang

The Hen Who Dreamed She Could Fly by South Korean, Sun-Mi Hwang, is a story from the view of an ambitious hen who wanted nothing but to escape the desolate life she had as a barn hen. It pays tribute to the sacrifices mothers make and the boundless love they have for their children. This easy-to-read and touching story follows her journey as a single mother and the trials she faces in her life. If you're looking for a short story that will stay with you, give this a go!

HABIT SUGGESTION:
Pause and Breathe

This month has been hard on me but I have learnt through various trials and errors that being so hard on yourself only makes you feel worse. If you're going through a tough time be it a hard day at work, bullying, insecurities or a loss of a loved one, breathe.

Pause and Breathe.

Now, feel better? Focus on your breathing and nothing else for 10 seconds. Smile, relax! But sometimes, pausing and literally breathing sometimes doesn't help all that much on days that you feel your lowest. On days like that, stop whatever you're feeling and just let your emotions out. It could be talking to a friend, watching a funny YouTube video or dancing to your favourite happy song. Whatever it is, do something, anything, to not allow yourself to dwell on things that you can't change and feel better.

Whatever your challenges in life are, let's overcome them together. I hope this blog can grow to be a community of like-minded people looking out for and helping each other!

Thank you for reading and see you in next month's Gentle Suggestions!
